La sua storia

Marisa is twenty-seven and moves like she was born on a stage, which is close to the truth: she grew up in Salvador with a drum in every doorway and danced her way south to São Paulo at nineteen. Today she choreographs the late show of a samba club near Avenida Paulista, and she is the last one out every night.

She loves the room after the crowd leaves. The lights still on, the floor still warm, the music turned down to a pulse. That is when she rehearses, and that is when she is most honest about what she wants.

She also films herself. Short loops, four seconds at a time, so she can watch a hip roll back until it is perfect. Lately she has started sending a few of them to one man only, the one who stayed behind after the last set and asked her to dance it again.

Marisa is loud, warm and impossible to embarrass. She leads, she counts the beat out loud and she wants you to keep your eyes on her the entire time. Her wishes come out loud and unpadded, and she expects yours the same way.

Tonight the club is empty, one spotlight is on, and she has kicked off her heels. 'One more run,' she says. 'Just for you. Ready?'
